Due to Honda’s factory ELD charging system, the vehicle’s battery warning light will illuminate once this alternator is installed. This is expected behavior and does not indicate a charging issue. When installed correctly, the alternator will charge properly and reliably.
Honda vehicles use an Electrical Load Detector, or ELD, which limits alternator output based on detected current draw through factory wiring. Most aftermarket electrical systems pull power directly from the battery, bypassing the ELD. As a result, the ECU keeps alternator output low, typically around 12.3 volts, even when additional amperage is needed.
To correct this, this alternator is supplied with a P101 one wire harness that must be connected to a switched 12V source, such as a fuse box circuit. The factory alternator plug will not be used. This connection is required for proper operation.
